A video of a missionary companionship playing half-court basketball with a group of men, sorry, schooling a group of men in half-court basketball, has gone viral online.
In the video, the two smartly-dressed missionaries, albeit with their sleeves rolled up and ties tucked in, evoke howls of ‘of snap’ and ‘oh no he didn’t’ from their opponents with a series of outrageous slam dunks and blocks.
One user wrote on YouTube: ‘This is awesome. We need more of this these days; people coming together instead of going against each other.’
Another added: ‘[To be honest] I saw that ass-whuppin’ coming as soon as I noticed the Mormons had rolled up their sleeves.”
Half-court basketball is apparently one of only a few approved recreational activities for missionaries.
The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints, to which most Mormons adhere, has around 14million believers, mostly in the US and mostly concentrated in Utah.
The church received a boost in interest owing to The Book Of Mormon musical, written by South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone.
Although initially heavily critical of the Broadway and West End hit, church elders later took out full-page adverts in the musical’s programme to promote the religion.
