For the seventh summer, bicyclists stripped down to their birthday suits or creatively painted their bodies to promote fuel-conscious consumption, positive body image and cycling.
“I’m a naturist, and I believe in body freedom,” said Debbie Kaighn, a three time participant who only wore shoes, socks and splashes of yellow and green paint. “And I’m also a cyclist.”
The 12-mile trek through the City of Brotherly Love is among many similar events through the World Naked Bike Ride movement, which started in 2004.
The leisurely ride began about 3 p.m. Saturday and took bicyclists along the cobblestone streets in the city. Many afterparties were held through the night. Clothing was optional.
The spectacle of hundreds of naked and half naked people on bicycles caught the eyes of many spectators who posted photos on Twitter.
